About Siliguri

Siliguri, at 122 m on the plains of North Bengal, is the transport gateway to Sikkim, Darjeeling, Bhutan, and the rest of North-East India. It is not a destination in the traditional sense — most travellers stay one night before continuing uphill. New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station, 8 km from the city centre, is the closest railhead to Darjeeling and Gangtok; Bagdogra airport is 16 km away with direct flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and a few international routes. Within the city, Hong Kong Market is the main shopping area, the ISKCON branch temple is a brief stop, and North Bengal Wild Animals Park (Bengal Safari) sits on the southern edge. Choose lodging within 10 minutes of NJP if you have an early-morning departure.
