Go beyond the regular Rumtek visit with access to the Golden Stupa, Institute and Library, then visit Tara Temple for butter-lamp offerings, prayers and mantra chanting.
Good for couples, families and solo travellers.
See Rumtek Monastery beyond the areas normally visited by general tourists. A Rumtek-based local guide who knows the monastery inside out accompanies the group and explains its religious traditions, rituals, history and lesser-known details in English, Hindi or Nepali. Inside Rumtek Monastery, the visit includes the Golden Stupa, Institute and Library, areas that general tourists do not normally have access to on a regular visit. The group then continues to Tara Temple, where you can light a butter lamp and offer prayers in your name and for your family. Monks at the temple also pray and chant mantras for you and your family. The monastery visit takes approximately 3 hours, with around 30 minutes of travel each way from the meeting point. Some sacred areas have strict rules on photography and touching. These instructions must be followed during the visit. This is for travellers who have already heard of Rumtek but want to go beyond the usual visitor route and understand more of the monastery from someone who lives there and knows it deeply.
