About this day

This is a 4-day shared tour from Gangtok into North Sikkim's high-altitude valleys, with a night in Lachen village, two nights in Lachung, and visits to Gurudongmar Lake and Yumthang Valley. You'll travel by shared shuttle and stay in budget homestays, with breakfast, lunch and dinner provided (3 of each). The tour includes your protected-area permit, which you'll need to access the region. After the night in Lachen, an early start takes you up to Gurudongmar Lake, one of the highest lakes in the world at about 5,430 m, before you drive on to Lachung for two nights. From Lachung you visit Yumthang Valley; Zero Point is optional and paid directly to the driver. All transport between Gangtok, Lachen and Lachung, and to Gurudongmar and Yumthang, uses the shared shuttle — you'll be travelling with other guests. This suits travellers who want to see North Sikkim's high lakes and glacial valleys without the cost of a private tour or a higher-end hotel, and who are comfortable with basic homestay comfort, shared transport and a very early high-altitude morning.
